About Me
Hey there! I am Hena Khaja and welcome to Texas Eye Doctors, a medical practice dedicated to excellent eye care in the greater North Dallas area. I started practicing in Dallas several years ago and set up shop in McKinney in 2019. It's been a challenging and exciting time starting up a practice from scratch but I am having a blast every step of the way. This is where I must give a shout out to my patients, colleagues, friends, and family. It's great to have their support and means alot to see patients drive over an hour to see me.
I live in Plano with my husband and love dark chocolate, cracking jokes, and pulling pranks on others. Fair warning, don't leave your phone unlocked around me, I have been known to change Facebook statuses to something embarrassing.
I was born in Houston, Texas and am the third born in a family of four kids. My parents are from India so we used to spend our summers there to visit my grandparents. Those trips to India made me realize how lucky I am to have been born in the US of A where I had every opportunity to achieve my goals. I took the opportunity to study at the University of Texas in Austin where I lived the best four years of my life, Hook em Horns! My dad taught me to work hard and aim for the best and that's how I ended up at the Mayo Clinic for medical school. While I was there I fell in love with cataract surgery. The motions are so precise and delicate and patients are so happy the next day when they can see the world again. Also the design of the human eye is awe inspiring. So I pursued an education in Ophthalmology at the University of Cincinnati. On my first day I received a 13 volume book series on eye diseases. I had no idea there was that much to learn but I took it all in with relish.
Once I finished the decade plus a few years of training, I set out to move back to Texas where I have been practicing since then. I absolutely love being an eye surgeon, I have been able to help and teach so many people. My high school anatomy teacher, Ms. Fleming, advised us to choose a career where you love what you do and it won’t feel like work. She was absolutely right!
In this space I will be sharing with you guys interesting cases, educating you about the eyes and diseases, how to keep them healthy, and my recommendations for products that I have come to trust over the years.
I also share my life and ophthalmology on my instagram @texaseyedoctors I would love if you followed me there too!
